Shoot Out at the Keogh Coral.

Game # 16– July 28th, 2025

Hurtin' Units vs. Dodge City

Hurtin' Units win 18-17

Team Record – 8-8-0

Keogh Park- It wasn't long ago ( July 17th) that the Units had been in Dodge City to take on Beechy and his outlaw gang, the Battin' Boys. I remember it was a stifling hot trip into Dodge, but thankfully, there were cold beverages and snacks back at the Dodge City Saloon. The Beechy Gang would defeat the Units by a score of 12-11, leaving a bitter taste in the Hurtin' Units' mouths, kinda like the saloon snacks.

The weather for this game was not any better than when we were in Dodge City; the temperature during the day was 32 degrees, but with the humidity, it felt like 40 degrees. There was a breeze that blew the diamond dust around, and the odd tumbleweed would roll its way across the field. This was a 7:00 pm start at the Keogh Coral, and the sun was still beating down. There was talk about calling it a tie and heading to the Legion Saloon for cold beverages, but the game was played.

At game time, the Units had 10 gang members dressed in playing attire to take on Dodge. Missing from this game were Brad and Jimmer. Jimmer was there, but didn't play. Sandra D. was ye ole scorekeeper.

In the top of the first inning, Dodge sent 7 players to the plate, Lorne would be the only batter to score. In the bottom of the inning, the Units came out guns a blazing. They would go through the lineup, and when the dust settled, the Units had scored 5 runs and left 2 stranded. In the second inning, Beechy's bandits would also go through their lineup, scoring 5 runs to tighten the noose around the Units' throats. In the home half, the Units would go through the lineup again, with the same result, 5 more runs pencilled on to the score-sheet. The tally after 2 complete innings was Units 10, Dodge City 6.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Dodge sent 4 batters to the plate and only Tommy B. would get on base. The Units would do the opposite, sending 9 batters to the plate, scoring 7 runs without an out. In the fourth inning, Dodge wasn't going away; they would send 9 batters to the plate and add 4 more runs to their score. In the bottom of the inning, Harley would lead off with a base-on-balls, Mike and Mike would get out, Kyle would hit a single, Kevin would hit an RBI double to score Harley, Mike D would fly out, and that was the inning. The score after 4 complete innings was 18-10 for the Units.

The fifth inning was called the open inning, and Dodge was not going away. Dodge City would rustle up 12 batters to the plate. Rico started off with a base on balls, and that seemed to set the tone. Dodge would score 7 runs and make the game close. The Units win by a single run and would not have to bat in the open inning.

The Hurtin' Units' next game is Wednesday, July 30th, 2025, vs. The Beer Bros.
