Beef stakes the Units to a Big Win.
Game # 6– June 10th, 2025
Hurtin' Units win 19-8
Team Record – 4-2-0
Coventry Park - I mentioned in the last post that I did not like playing on C# 2 and up; until tonight, that is the only Coventry diamond we have played on. Tonight, we had a change of venue. We were playing the 8:00 pm game on C#1, my favourite diamond at Coventry. A change is a good thing. Since the Inglourious Batsters are named after a Quentin Tarantino movie, I'm going to attempt to Tarantino in this post.
The Hurtin' Units' next game is Thursday, June 12th at Keogh Park vs. The Gamblers.
The final score was 19- 8 for the Units. The Units were the home team, they were leading after the top of the open inning and would not bat in the open.
In the top of the open inning, the Basters were shut down 3 batters up, 3 quick outs.
In the fifth inning, the Batsters came out swinging, Dennis got out, Cookie got on with a fielder's choice and then the top of the order took over with 5 hits in a row, scoring 4 runs for the Batsters.
In the bottom in the fifth inning, the Units went on a scoring spree, Simon got on with a
base-on-balls, Brad (leadoff) got a base hit, Mikey G walked, Kevin singled, Kyle singled, Matt single and with the bases loaded, Mikey (Beef) hit a grand slam home run over the left-center field fence to add some insurance runs to the Units lead. The Units would score 7 runs in the inning, all with no outs.
The fourth inning was a quiet inning for both teams, the Batsters sent 4 batters up with 3 outs, and the Units sent 6 batters to the plate and scored a single run.
The third inning saw some scoring for both teams, The Batsters scored 3 runs sending 7 batters to the plate. In the bottom of the inning, the Units sent 11 batters to the plate and 8 hits later, there were 6 runs on the scoresheet. The second was uneventful for both teams, the Inglourious went 3 up, 3 down, and the Units were not much better scoring a single run. The score at the end of 3 innings was 6-3 for the Units.
In the first inning, the visiting Batsters sent 6 batters to the plate and when the diamond dust settled it was 1-0 for the Batsters. In the bottom of the first inning, the Units got off to a great start, with 8 batters up and 4 runs scored.
The weather for this game was good, the temperature at 8 pm was 19 degrees with a soft breeze and overcast skies. A strawberry moon was a backdrop in the southern sky. At game time the Units had 9 guys dressed to play, missing from this game were Mike B, Fabio N, and myself (Jimmer), Peter was the pitcher for the Units. The Units picked up Simon Smith as a sub on the night, thanks, Simon. The umpire was Sweet Lou C, and I kept score for this game.
