HURTIN' UNITS SNIFF OUT A WIN VS. DOGCATCHERS

Hurtin' Units vs. The Dogcatchers

Game # 11- July 2nd, 2025

Hurtin' Units win

Team Record – 5-6-0

Coventry Park-  This game marks the halfway point in the Hurtin' Units' season, with only 11 more games remaining. I've always been in favour of a longer season, at least 24 games, but this year it was decided that we would shorten the season.

The weather for this game was great; the temperature was in the mid-20s, and a soft breeze was rustling the trees on Coventry #1 diamond. Earlier in the day, there was a real threat of thunderstorms, but we got nothing. There were still sounds of thunder in the sky for this 8:45 pm game. The Units were the home team in this game. Stef was the umpire (she did a great job, very impressed), and both teams kept the scorekeeping until Anthony D. (Mike's son) stepped up to do the job.

At game time, we had 11 of our own players dressed for this game. Kyle was the only missing player with good reason. Kyle's wife gave birth to their second child on June 30th. Congratulations Guys. I was so glad that we had so many of our own guys for this game. In last week's game, we were missing 5 players and called for 3 subs. Having subs is fine, but it does mess with lineups and fielding positions. I prefer our own guys.

Game Time:  In the first inning, the Dogcatchers came out swinging, Steve and Mark came around to score on some solid hitting by Allen and Keith D. In the bottom, Mike G set the pace for the Units, running out a base hit leading off. Brad also hit a base hit, but Mike B. and Kevin C got out, and with 2 outs Mike D drove in a run, Peter followed with a double and then Matt knocked in 2 more runs, Fabio would get out to end the inning. 4-2 for the Units.

In the second inning, both teams scored a single run. In the third inning, both teams only scored a single run again.

In the fourth inning, the Dogcatchers went stickin' and when their half finished, they had scored 5 runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Jimmer and Harley both got out, with 2 outs, Mike G, Brad M and Mike B all came in to score. At the end of 4 complete innings, the score was tied 9-9.

In the fifth inning, the Dogcatchers went down quickly, 5 up 3 outs, 0 runs. In the bottom, the Units sent 6 batters to the plate, and the first 2 batters would come around to score. In the sixth inning, the Dogcatchers would not go away, and the top of their order would mark 4 more runs on the scoresheet. The Units would score 2 more runs in the bottom of the inning. After 6 complete innings, the score was tied 13-13.

In the seventh inning, lead-off batter Peter would get on base, Larry would get out, Steve W would line out, Jamie N would hit a double, scoring Peter, Mark would hit a single and score Jamie, and Allen would get out to end the inning. In the bottom the Units were down by 2 runs, Fabio would get a lead off double to get things started, Jim R would get out, Harley would single and advance Fabio to third, Jimmer would hit a line-drive down third baseline that went off Keith's glove and deflected in to foul territory, Fabio would come in to score, Harley would advance to Mikey G, would hit into a fielder's choice, Harley would score, Jimmer would be out at second. Brad M would get a base hit, and Mikey would come around to third base, Mike B would hit a single, scoring Mike G from third for a Hurtin' Units win. Final score 16-15.

The Hurtin' Units' next game is Tuesday, July 8th, at Coventry Park (C#2), 9:15 pm vs. The Beer Bros.
