It has been a long time coming, but the start of the 2025 season is finally upon us. I liked that we got to play opening night, and the weather was fantastic for this game. We finally got to meet or reintroduce ourselves to all of the Hurtin' Units players. We had all 12 players show up for this game, but the one thing I'm disappointed in is that I didn't get a team picture. The opportunity was there, and I missed it. I don't know when we will all be back on the field. Together. D'oh!! I think it took until game 22 last season to finally get a team picture.
The season opener is always fun and hectic at the same time. I gathered all the stuff I needed, pulled the wagon down from storage, got the uniforms, did the new lineup and spent time meeting the guys we hadn't met yet. The only thing I forgot was my clipboard for the lineup, not bad for an opening night.
We have 4 rookies this season and 1 player who played 8 games as a replacement for the Meatballs last season. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they are all good players, at least based on what I saw on Monday night.
So, I forgot that I do these little game updates until Troy reminded me at the Legion last night. It's been a little bit since I babbled on about the games of the Hurtin' Units. It will take me a few minutes to figure this thing out again.
I didn't get a copy of the scoresheet, and I'm going to be honest that without that piece of paper, I cannot recall very much of the game. I can start by talking about my contributions (if you want to call them that), I pitched a decent game, no walks, took a shot off the shin pads from Allen, walked once, got a hit and had a very strange play while batting. I had a 1 strike count on me, Randy throws a pitch inside, it's going to miss the board completely, the ball hits my bat, and it's a called strike, it was a funny moment to be sure.
I can tell everybody that we have some hitters and some speed. Clouch was the hit leader on the night, and Kyle showed his power with a homerun over the right field fence. Our defense was pretty good too. I went to the website and copied the boxscore, I will include in this post.
The Hurtin' Units next game is Wednesday, May 14th vs. The Tottenham Twisters.
