Game # 20– August 20th, 2025

Hurtin' Units vs. The Master Batters

Hurtin' Units lose 11-10

Team Record – 10-10-0

Keogh Park- On Tuesday night, the Hurtin' Units were scheduled to play the Meatballs, but as luck would have it, the skies opened up early in the afternoon, and rain fell for most of the evening. All the T.O.T. Games were cancelled, and the Meatballs (with Ian) dodged a Hurtin' Units bullet. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, August 27th, and it will be the final game of the season for both the Meatballs and the Units. Ian has departed for Australia and will not be playing in this important game for the Meatballs. The Units could end up playing spoiler, as the Meatballs are near the top of the standings, and a loss could cost them the league title.

The weather for this game against the Master Batters was cool, it was around 19
degrees
. I remember saying to Bev that I might need a jacket, still better than rain. The rain from Tuesday had drained away, but the batter's boxes at Keogh were still full of water. Mike sent out a post on WhatsApp saying that the boxes were muddy. I threw a shovel in my car before heading to the park. When I arrived at the park, Mike and Anthony Di Matteo used the shovel to remove the water and fill in the boxes, making them usable for the game.

At game time, the Units had 11 guys dressed to take on the Batters. Brad M was our only missing player. On the other side of the diamond, it was a different story; the Master Batters only had 6 of their own players, and they called in the replacements. The Master Batters picked up some super subs for this game. Lorne D., Billy F., David C., and Norm T. were all pencilled in for the Batters. The Master Batters' bottom of the order never looked so good, and they were pretty good baseball players, also. The Umpire for this game was Regan, and the scorekeeper was Bev.

So, I don't have the game sheet, I never even saw it, but I can tell you that this was a close game all the way through, with each team in the lead several times. I know that going into the open inning, the Units were leading by only a single run, with 2 outs and unable to close out the game. The Master Batters scored 2 runs in the bottom of the open inning to win the game.
