Life's a Beechy.

Game # 10 - June 26th, 2024

Hurtin' Units vs. Dodge City

Hurtin' Units lose 12-11

Team Record – 3-7-0

Coventry Park – For this game we find ourselves back on C1, the diamond where the Units fell short to the Brew Birds, the night before, by a score of 13-9. We were in the Brew Bird game and just could not score when we needed to. I looked at the standings this morning and it was depressing seeing the Units at the bottom again this season. Some of you may recall the Units finished last season in the basement with only a 13 team division. This season we sit at the bottom with a 16 team division. Last season we were not good and we just didn't gel, I believe this season is just a bit of bad luck.

This season we have been in every game and the most runs we have given up was 18 in a loss. Our plus/minus is at -7, we have only scored 117 runs and given up 128 over our first 10 games. I know that we are only 10 games in, and everybody makes the playoffs, but it's still a little frustrating seeing your team at the bottom of the standings. Next week the Units only play one game, at Keogh Park, for the first time on a Thursday and hopefully these changes will put us back in the win column.

Game Time:

The weather this week has cooled off compared to the stinky hot days last week. It's still warm and last night it was a mix of sun and a little rain. At game time there was a sun shower and it created a double rainbow in the eastern sky. The rainbow didn't bring us luck, but was cool to look at.

At game time, the Units had 9 of the regular team players, we were missing Kevin, Brandon and Whitey. Brandy C was the scorekeeper and sweet Lou was the umpire for this game. The Units picked up Jack Z as a sub. Thanks Jack for helping us out .

I'm not going to babble on about this game. I don't have a copy of the scoresheet, I could go to the website, but so can everybody else. I thought we really played well, our defense was very good and kept pace with Dodge. Going into the bottom of the 6th inning, the score was tied 10-10 and Dodge scored a run to take the lead. In the top of the open inning, the Units would battle back and tie the score again. 11-11 going into the bottom of the inning, Beechy leading off. CRAP on A CRACKER!! Beech would crush a double to right field, the next batter was Chris Kirkpatrick and I intentionally walked him to put a force on and try to stop Paul Taverner, Paul would hit a double to RCF and Beechy would come around for the win.

Over the last 2 weeks the Units have played some really good teams and we played them well enough to win. We walked away with zero wins in those 4 games, but all 4 games were fun and enjoyable, we all had a good time. Beer Bros., Twisters, Brew Birds and Dodge City, were the teams we lost to and in every game I can remember laughing or grinning over some quirky thing. Guys like Chilly, Matty, Shawn, Roger, Beechy and Russell are what this league is about.

After the Units game last night, I subbed for the Beer Bros and had some laughs in that game also. They have 3 Brads on their team and it reminded of a Monty Python sketch. If you get a chance watch the U-tube video I included.

The Units next game is Thursday July 4th, at Keogh Park.
