GAMBLERS BEAT UNITS IN HOT AND SWEATY CONDITIONS.

*Game #10 - June 30, 2026

*Hurtin' Units vs. The Gamblers

*Hurtin' Units lose 18-12

*Team Record – 5-5-0

Oh boy, here we go again! This is my second attempt at this post – the first one was nearly done when Word decided to crash and take my hard work with it. Total bummer!

Coventry Park was lit up like a Christmas tree! Ever since the schedule dropped, this game has been the hottest ticket in town. The ticket office hot-line was buzzing nonstop, and some fans were leaving voicemails, just praying for two seats to see the amazing David “the Hammer” Connolly and the bright hope, Troy “The Great Hope.” Those seats were definitely sizzling, even hotter than the 34 degrees Celsius temps outside! Honestly, with just a soft breeze, it felt like we were playing in the Nevada Desert!

So, here’s the scene: the Units fielded 10 brave players while the Gamblers had 11, with Tommy Betts ready to step in as a super-sub pitcher. Our trusty scorekeeper, the lovely Sandra D, was on the case, all while the Gamblers basked in the glory of being the home team.

First inning? Yikes! The Units went down faster than a speeding ticket—four batters up,
one single by Peter, and three quick outs. Meanwhile, the Gamblers didn’t fare too much better. They sent five batters up and managed to hit a colossal home run thanks to Chris Odell, along with a few singles. A real nail-biter!

Things looked a tad grim in the second inning when the Units' first two batters were sent packing. But just when you thought it was over, the singles parade began! Five singles in a row, followed by a jaw-dropping base-clearing triple by Corey, and suddenly, we racked up 7 runs! The Gamblers answered with their own flair, sending 7 batters to the plate to snag 2 more runs.

The third inning was a little sleepy, with both teams struggling to score. The Units were sent down in order, and the Gamblers only plated 1 run thanks to Jake's nice little in-the-park homer. Talk about keeping it interesting!

In the fourth, the Units added 2 more runs with some solid hitting by Jimmer and Lorne. The excitement didn’t stop there! The Gamblers brought their A-game, rolling through 9 batters and scoring 6 runs. Danny started things off with a triple, and the scoring spree included triples, more singles, and a final flourish from Chris with another triple. Holy Shitsnacks!!

By the fifth, the Units were running on fumes—only managing to line up 3 batters; Mike snagged a single, but was out at second on Keith's fielder's choice, leaving Franco in the dust. The Gamblers? They were all about the luck! Sending up 10 batters and scoring a whopping 7 runs! We were now at Gamblers 17, Units 9.

As the sixth inning approached, it was time for some OPEN INNING magic! The Units, fueled by determination (or maybe a few energizing snacks), sent 7 batters to the plate, scoring 3 runs. But wait, it’s not done! The Gamblers managed one more run, and despite the brilliant show from our team, the final score settled at 18-12 in favour of the Gamblers.

Highlights:

Lorne got out.

Homerun and a triple by Chris O.

Triple by Corey M. (Units)
