Hurtin' Units vs. The Draft Kings.
May 15th, 2023- Opening Night
Hurtin' Units lose 24-12
It was a beautiful night for baseball, the birds were chirping, the smell of Ben Gay was in the air, the shirts were ready to go and it felt great to be back on the diamond.
Before the start of the game there was a tribute/ memorial for Laurier Plante, the turnout was amazing, and I thought Dave S. was great in his talk about Laurier. Brad Y. had lined the diamonds and in the centre marked a giant number 10 in honour of Laurier. We had a moment of silence and reflection, it was definitely an emotional evening.
The Hurtin' Units did not have a great night on the field. The Draft Kings came out just crushing the ball and hitting every gap on the field. The Draft Kings would score 15 runs in the first 3 innings, the Units put up a single run in the 2nd inning. The score was 15-1 after 3 innings. D'oh!!
The Units would settle down a bit, and in the 4th, ,5th and 6th inning would score a total of 11 more runs. The Draft Kings still kept hitting, but the Units would tighten up defensively and only allow 9 more runs in the game. It was a rough start for the Units, but we are back to work Tuesday night at Coventry for our next game. Go Units!!
