Game # 24

August 30, 2022

Hurtin' Units vs. The Bat Flippers

Hurtin' Units win 25-24

Team Record- 15-7-2

Coventry Park- Diamond # 2.- Last week our Thursday game got cancelled due to rain and for most of day today it wasn't looking very good, but the skies started to clear and the game looked liken it was a go. The temperature at around 6pm was still in the mid 20s and there was a soft breeze blowing.

At game time, the Units had 10 players dressed in red and yellow ready to take on the Bat Flippers. Missing from our lineup were Jon and Chilly. The Units were the home team for this game.

Back on July 5th the Hurtin' Units and the Bat Flippers played each other and the Flippers came out on top by a score of 14-11. This game tonight was also a close one, with the Hurtin' Units coming out on top by a score of 25-24.

Almost 50 runs scored in total in this game. In the early innings, the Hurtin' Units had control of this game, we score 7 runs in the 1st, 2 runs in the 2nd, 5 runs in the 3rd and held the Flippers to only 4 runs which all came in the 3rd inning. The score was 14-4 after 3 innings.

In the top of the 4th inning, the Flippers added 4 more runs and shut out the Units. In the 5th inning the Flippers would add 7 more runs to their total, but the Units would counter that with a 7 run inning themselves. The score at the end of 5 innings was 21-15. This was nail biting time.

In the top of the 6th inning the Flippers would put up another 7 run inning and the Units could only muster up another 2 runs. The score at the end of 6 complete innings was 24-22 for the Units. At this time, we had been playing 1 hour and 15 minutes, the Umpire called the captains to home plate and asked if we wanted to end the game or play the final inning. I like to win, but I want to win fairly and I agreed to continue with the last inning, even though we were leading. The Flippers deserved their last and the open inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Flippers scored their first two batters, Radar and Clouch both came around to score. Alex would get on and Laurier would get out (1), Alex would be forced out (2) at second on a fielder's choice hit by Rob, next batter Jim would get out. “Change them up boys, we got a tie game”.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Units were sending up the bottom of the order, Hags, Erico and Jimmer to start. Hags would ground out (1), Rico would hit a seeing eye single up the middle and the Units had the winning run on first base, Jimmer would come up and hit an off field single to right field, Rico with lightening speed would run from 1st base to home from dramatic finish to an exciting game. Units win, Units win!!

This game had a little bit of everything, dogs on the field, rings flying off of fingers, walks, hits, double plays and most of all... it was a fun. Thanks Flippers.
