Practice makes Perfect...April 26, 1010
Coventry Park- The practice on the 24th went well. We had ten players from our team come out, as well as a couple of my friends, Glen and The Pieman. We all had the opportunity to meet each other and I had the honour of meeting Tom Perry. Tom has not played baseball since 2002 and has decided to play again this season.
Each of us had some batting practice, hitting a bucket of balls, approximately 30 balls in a bucket while the other players were scattered around the field shagging balls, except for maybe the Pieman, who didn't seem to have much energy, probably the 4 beers before we arrived or maybe the jeans were slowing him down. Really, who wears blue jeans to batting practice?? Only the Pieman... By the end of each bucket, most of us had a good swing going and we were making pretty good contact. A good way to get the season started.
I'm sure there were a few people walking around with some aches and pains on Sunday, I know I was a little sore and this was my third time on the field this month. But this is what practice is for, work the muscles that have not been used over the winter.
After the practice we hung around the diamond and drank a couple of sodas, Chris sold some CRIC tickets and we enjoyed what turned out to be a nice day... Unfortunately, when we were enjoying our beverages, Mike received some bad news from home. One of the Olliffe's family dogs had been hit by a car. Milo, the oldest of the dogs, had wondered across street and was stuck, she was rushed to the emergency vet in Newmarket and fortunately is going to recover... The lucky pooch is staying with family in Alliston while Mike and this family are on vacation in Cuba this week...
Well, the practice went well, the dog is doing good, Pieman proved ya can't play field with designer jeans on, the weather is getting better everyday...Only 2 weeks left until the season starts...Let's play ball!!
Looking forward to the season... Jimmer.
P.S. Hopefully, everyone feels good about their hacks at the plate.

Captain's Blog- Stardate April 18, 2010
Welcome to the Captain's blog! I was actually debating with myself whether or not to do a blog and depending on how busy I get, it may not receive the attention it deserves. If you have anything (i.e. photos, stories, etc.) you might like to add to the website or the blog, I'm more than willing to put them in.
It's been more than seven months since The Wild won the championship. For those new or returning players to the league, The Wild won the triple crown last season, they won the championship, the regular season and the keg party... Lucky bastards!! We are fortunate to have on our team this upcoming season, one of the 2009 Wild players, Jens Lepa.
Speaking of championships, I was fortunate to win in 2008 with the Lucky Stiffs. Winning feels good!
The Hurtin' Units captain's blog will be a site where teammates can view a brief game summary, game score and game highlights as I've viewed them. I will only write about the positive events of each game or if something is humorous and needs to be mentioned it may be thrown in.
This is not the first time I have blogged a team in the Tottenham Oldtimers league. In 2007 I played for the Rusty Rebels and blogged every game, including playoffs and tournaments. If you would like to view the Rebels blog go to http://www.rustyrebels.blogspot.com/.
I'm looking forward to the start of the season. This will be my fifth season in the league, I've played on some good teams and some mediocre squads, but these teams are in the past the focus is on the Units...
This is Mike and my first year being captains. One of the things I'm most looking forward to this season is playing with Mike again. I played with Mike my first two seasons and we are both excited about captaining this season. Mike had an off season at bat last season, finding the gloves of opposing teams about .600 percent of the time, if you know what I mean. He has something to prove to himself this season, he has the Eye of the Tiger again and is hitting the snot out of the ball already this season. I only mention his G.O.A (getting out average) because I know how much he hates the statistics... The team we drafted looks like it will make our first season as captains fun and successful.
I really like the team that we drafted on Saturday April 10, 2010, I don't think we could have asked for any better, except maybe for this Chris Ross guy (just kidding).
I'm in the process of organizing a practice and I'm looking forward to the start of the season...
Cheers, Jimmer.
